Come join us for fun, socializing, crafts and dancing!

Make Your Own Sekanjabin Class

Date:  Friday, August 11th

Class Size:  8

Instructor:  HL Brigitta Riegers

Sekanjabin (seh-KAHN-jeh-bin) is an ancient Iranian sweet and sour drink made with vinegar and either honey or sugar.  It’s often called “Medieval Gatorade” by folks in the SCA, and now you can learn how to make your very own!  Let HL Brigitta Riegers walk you through the process, and you can pack some Sekanjabin in with your supplies for Sport of Kings!

Students will need to bring the following materials to class:

  • 4 cups sugar
  • ½ cup each red and white wine vinegar (1 cup total)
  • ¼ pound fresh mint leaves
  • Fine cheesecloth
  • Paper coffee filter
  • Colander
  • 1 quart jar with lid (canning jar is fine!)

There will be some mint and lemon balm leaves available at this class, through a generous donation by Mistress Rafaella and HL Kendryth filia Gerald.  However, if you would like to bring your own, that is fine – just be sure they are fresh!

Come to Revels and learn a tasty – and historically-accurate – way to stay hydrated during these hot, hot days of summer!
