Mehndi (sometimes called “Henna” in the SCA) is a beautiful form of personal, ceremonial art originating on the Indian subcontinent. From there, it spread through the Middle East and Africa, typically applied during festivals, coming-of-age ceremonies, and weddings. The designs, often appearing on the person’s hands and feet, are made from a paste using the dried, powdered leaves of the henna plant. The images are complex, beautiful, and temporary – mehndi gradually fades over a number of weeks.
In this class, HL Helena Zancani will teach you some of the history and techniques of mehndi application – and will give you the opportunity to try designing and applying mehndi yourself! Please be aware that, due to the cost of supplies, a donation of $3 per student is appreciated. Class size is also limited.
Please join us on Friday, September 29th for Mehndi!
