Over the last three years, we have been incredibly proud to serve as the baron and baroness of Dragon’s Mist. We sincerely believe this to be one of the most enthusiastic and caring lands in the Kingdom of An Tir.
The Barony of Dragon’s Mist does not discriminate, nor permit discrimination of individuals based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, caste, sex, gender, disease, disability, or any other protected characteristic. We take these matters very seriously.
We, the baron and baroness of Dragon’s Mist, believe that modern society and the institutions which underpin it have been complicit in discrimination through their inaction to demand respect, peace, care and ultimately justice for African Americans and many other marginalized and minority groups within our country and society.
The SCA must hold ourselves to a higher standard.
Within the SCA, there is a spectrum of belief systems, backgrounds and education. Not everyone shares the same politics, and that is okay. The value of human lives and human rights are not matters of politics. We cannot be complicit in the quiet biases that poison our dream and deeply impair our ability to provide a truly safe and welcoming environment for all people (including newcomers!).
We know that our Society can succeed in helping its people grow and overcome their personal biases. No individual is unwelcome except where their own intolerance prevents them from sharing activities and interests in a respectful and civil manner. We regret the prospect of losing long valued members and contributors to our Society’s history.
It would be easy to avoid speaking about controversial things in order to “keep the peace”. However, there is no peace when members of our community are in pain or live in fear, and those feelings are ignored. Any student of history knows that this is not the first time that the scales of justice have become so unbalanced that it is necessary to realign them. We have the opportunity to learn from our history, and to endeavor not to be trapped in the cycle of repeating it.
If you need our help in combating, harassment, bullying or oppressive behavior of any kind, if you need the ears of your Coronets, please reach out to us. We are here for you.
